| History of Ebenezer |
Looking BackEstablished in 1856, Ebenezer was one of the first churches to be in ministry to the Stafford community. The original building was a brick structure built on donated land which is now at the corner of Onville Road and Ebenezer Church Road in Northern Stafford County. For 135 years, the church building remained at this location, surviving damage from the Civil War and ministering to generations of residents in the community. The Church was given the name "Ebenezer" in reference to the Bible passage of 1 Samuel where the army of God's People were victorious in battle. The name "Ebenezer" means "God is our Rock of Help." In 1991, a bold and courageous decision was made to relocate the church and build new facilities on an eight acre parcel of land located next to Embrey Mill Road in Stafford. This beautiful piece of real estate is becoming surrounded by schools, houses, and roads. The decision to move and rebuild reflects the desire to grow and reach out to people in the community. Looking NowEbenezer Church is currently among the most vibrant and fastest-growing churches in Virginia Methodism. Our facilities are used on a daily basis for recreation, study, prayer, and outreach ministries. Ebenezer literally touches hundreds of lives in the Stafford area and thousands of lives around the world. We provide a wide variety of activities and opportunities for people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. We continue to grow in faith and love and we continue to look for new ways to tell the world about Jesus Christ. Looking AheadThe congregation of Ebenezer Church plans to continue growing along with the Stafford area. We believe that numerical growth can be a sign of God's blessing and can equip us for new types of ministry and service to our community and to the world. We completed construction on a large, beautiful sanctuary in the spring of 2002 and completed a new Ministry Center in early 2007. We hope to send volunteer missionaries to people and places of great need. In summary, we plan to do whatever God calls us to do. God is still "our Rock of Help," and we are excited to be his servants. |
