Making an Impact: Rainwater Collection Project by Shannon Priest

Across the street from Ebenezer Church at Cloe Field, something new is making a big impact — and it all started with one young woman’s vision to serve.

Shannon Priest, a sophomore at the University of Mary Washington and daughter of Keith and B.J. Priest, recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award Project by designing and building a rainwater collection system and firewood stand for Ebenezer’s outdoor ministry space at Cloe Field.

Before Shannon’s project, there was no water source available at the back field. But thanks to her creativity and hard work, Ignite YTH and other ministry groups now have access to collected rainwater — perfect for safely managing bonfires, service projects, and outdoor gatherings.

The system gathers rainwater from the roof of the new firewood structure and stores it in a large collection tank, providing an eco-friendly and sustainable water source for future use. The firewood stand itself helps keep wood dry, organized, and ready for events — making Cloe Field more functional, safe, and welcoming for all who gather there.

“It’s inspiring to see how Shannon used her talents to meet a real need,” said Pastor Jeff Harrison. “Her project not only supports our youth ministry but also demonstrates the kind of creative, faith-filled service that changes our community for the better.”

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest level of achievement in Girl Scouting, recognizing leadership, community impact, and long-term sustainability. Through this project, Shannon modeled what it means to put faith into action — turning a simple idea into a resource that will serve others for years to come.

Thank you, Shannon, for helping Ebenezer Church make an impact — one drop at a time. 🌧️💙
