Radical Listening
The story of Pentecost reminds us that Holy Spirit arrived, not with an instruction manual, but with violent winds and a lot of confusion. And yet, God was at work doing the single most important act in history after Jesus’ ascension: pouring out his Spirit. God was leveling the playing field, removing human privilege, and allowing everyone to hear the Good News in their own language. There is a lot of confusion in our world right now as Americans are being called to name and confront our racist systems. God’s work at Pentecost calls us into account, by showing us all of our man-made dividing lines, and teaching us to be radical listeners and a force for God ordained unity.
