John is the most important text in the Bible and, therefore, in the history of the world. In it the author shares with us more than facts. He teaches us what those facts mean. John wants to put it all in perspective, which is why his text starts with “In the beginning…” John isn’t just setting us straight on the story of Jesus. He uses Jesus’ story to reorient our understanding of the entire cosmos.
